Educational Support for Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
When the National Fire Academy revamped their mission statement, it changed the way the organization corresponded with other federal agencies. Working with a restructured National Incident Management System (NIMS) and National Response Framework (NRF) as well as out-of-date courses meant much-needed change on multiple levels.
The National Fire Academy (NFA) turned to Cabezon Group to assist in a fast-turnaround revision of important courses in the EMS curriculum. NFA leaders moved rapidly to bring the Safety Officer and the Health & Safety Officer courses up-to-date. Changes were made in the NIMS, National Fire Protection Association standards as well as the all-hazard view of these critical roles within incident command and within fire department and other response organizations.
Cabezon Group’s work plan began with research and a review of the agency's strategies for its EMS curriculum. We gleaned feedback from instructors and from a piloting effort to improve both the flow of the courses and the content and format of the Student Man and Instructional Guides and slides. The Agency's goal was to move the revised courses into the mainstream delivery system as soon as they could finish all of their own reviews and final efforts to issue the new courses. This made time a critical element of success since Cabezon Group helped the incoming Instructional Lead for EMS. The intense time frame and importance of the course made for a high-pressure environment. Cabezon Group's team provided ahead-of-time delivery of the 42 separate files integrated to form a cohesive, student-and instructor-friendly new courses that help move the emergency response community along the path to accomplish the agency's mission.
