We are currently looking for a Business Development Manager to be located in our Columbia, MD office location. The Business Development Manager is an integral member of our organization and will be responsible for identifying and closing new business opportunities, building long-term relationships, stretegic planning and being an active member in the business community.
The successful candidate will develop and maintain customer business relationships in domestic and/or international government markets. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and developing new business opportunities; directing research and analysis; and developing marketing programs for our organization. The individual may act in a sales role by establishing customer contacts, developing proposals, and delivering marketing presentations. This position will require you to initiate contact with customers and prospects and act independently in the sales process.
The responsibilities of the Business Development Manager will include:
- Analyze potential government or commercial clients and maintain up-to-date knowledge of assigned client plans, programs, and program funding.
- Review the Commerce Business Daily (CBD), FedBizopps.gov, FederalSources.net, GovCon, and other pertinent publications and online sources for potential business opportunities.
- Review bid solicitations and make recommendations to management regarding the viability of and strategy for responding to procurements.
- Develop and manage proposal budgets.
- Develop proposal briefing materials such as an environmental scan of potential clients, proposal outline and proposal review schedule.
- Develop and prepare proposals and capability statements, including preparation of technical plans (personnel, management plans, corporate experience and technical approach) and pricing. Development of proposal drafts will require strong writing skills and ability to work closely with technical staff to capture technical requirements.
- Independently coordinate the production of proposals including working with creative, editorial and courier services to ensure that high quality proposals are delivered error free and on-time.
- Provide input in preparing marketing brochures and capabilities statements as needed. Assist in preparing and delivering formal presentations for clients and potential clients.
- Prepare template corporate materials and case studies, working in conjunction with program staff.
- Create standard operating procedures for proposal development processes.
- Prepare required summaries of proposal and marketing activities for senior management.
- Maintain tracking database of marketing and proposal activities.
- Work well with others and handle day-to-day situations with an acceptable, reasonable approach.
- Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Required skills/experience:
- B.S. or B.A. degree, with MBA a plus.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with managing business development activites within the SBA 8(a) environment a real plus.
- Experience leading and managing proposal development efforts in the Federal sector.
- Results-driven sales experience with sales quota information that can be validated through positive professional references.
- Track record of creating and managing a credible business development pipeline, identifying business opportunities early on (Pre-RFP), executing effective teaming, partnerships and alliances and implementing winning capture strategies.
- Ability to develop and deliver sales presentations and business proposals.
- Ability to assist in the development and execution of marketing programs.
